Why dilution pins work better than metering tips

What are metering tips?

How do you know that a chemical dispensing system releases the right amount of chemical when diluting? Traditionally, a metering tip ensures this. A metering tip is a small piece of plastic that you place in a chemical dispensing system between the chemical and water flow. Metering tips control the amount of chemical mixed with water for the cleaning solution.

Metering tips come in different sizes, so the wider the hole of the metering tip, the more chemical is released, resulting in a stronger solution.

While metering tips are a good piece of equipment, as they provide the exact amount of chemical needed, they also have some big drawbacks.

When changing a metering tip, you have to remove the tube that the chemical is being drawn from. This tube acts like a vacuum, which sucks in chemical. If the tube isn’t fitted properly, the tube just sucks in air and won’t suck in chemical which will have a detrimental effect on the cleaning solution. In addition, it can result in chemical leakage, causing spills and potential injury.

They are inflexible

Once the engineer has inserted the metering tip, then that is it. If you want to change the dilution ratio, they are extremely fiddly, making it hard to change them. You then may have to call an engineer out to replace them.

Easy to misplace

Metering tips are notorious for getting lost. As they are so small it’s easy to see why, as their tiny size makes them very easy to misplace.

Can be hazardous

If you change the metering tip without calling out an engineer, you have to take safety precautions. When changing a metering tip you can be exposed to harsh chemical, so goggles and gloves are needed. Without this, chemical could potentially get into skin, eyes and users could inhale chemical fumes. If in the case of a tube not being fixed properly, all it takes is for it to flick chemical the wrong way accidentally, potentially causing chemical to harm your eyes.

With this in mind, metering tips can cause many problems. What is the alternative?
